13 year old Sol Chamberlain-Hyde, from Milford on Sea, completed the equivalent of a double Channel swim of 42 miles during June, to raise much needed funds for Naomi House & Jacksplace!
Starting on 1st June, Sol decided to embark upon a ‘to France and back’ swim. Initially, his average goal was 1.5 – 2 miles per day, but with a few days missed because of an ear infection, the final two days of June meant he had to cover nine miles in the water to reach his goal! With weathered, wrinkly fingers, he completed his final length (6,145 lengths in total in the back garden) and celebrated not only an epic month of swimming, but a fundraising achievement of £1,200 for Naomi House & Jacksplace!
The Year 8 student from Priestlands School, who had just turned 13 a couple of weeks before he started the challenge, was happy to have a focus for the month over and above his home-schooling. Naomi House & Jacksplace is close to the Chamberlain-Hydes family’s heart, with Sol’s mum having previously worked there as a fundraiser for many years.
Sol said this about his swim:
“Swimming is a big thing in our family. My dad completed an English channel relay swim a couple of years ago and my brother is a GB National level swimmer, so it seemed a natural choice of activity to use in a positive way”.
I want to say two thank yous - to my sister Maisie, who tirelessly counted my lengths as I swam, and to everyone who donated so generously to Naomi House & Jacksplace in support of my swim; thank you!”
Thank you to you too, Sol! What an amazing achievement! We are so impressed by your determination to achieve your goal in support of the children, young adults and families cared for by Naomi House & Jacksplace.
