This Sunday, 45,000 people across the UK will be taking part in the Virtual London Marathon to support causes close to their hearts. Seven wonderful Naomi House & Jacksplace supporters are taking on the 26.2 miles in areas close to their homes in aid our charity.
One of those supporters is Jason Davis, an Account Director at the Royston Group, from Reading. We spoke to Jason about how he’s feeling ahead of this weekend’s run.
Jason said:
“I signed up to do the Virtual London Marathon to take me out of my comfort zone and get me off that sofa! I’m also a keen triathlete and currently training for an Ironman event (which has now been postponed to next year). Part of the event is a marathon and this is great training for it.
I have walked the Clarendon Way for Naomi House before and love what the charity does and what it stands for.
“Royston Group look after the maintenance for Naomi House and we love strengthening our relationship with the hospices by raising as much sponsorship and awareness as we can.
“Everyone who has completed this event speaks of how when you hit ‘the wall’, the crowds and cheering push you through the pain. Even though the crowds won’t be there to do this, donations and what they can do for Naomi Hospice & Jacksplace will spur me to the end.
“I’m feeling nervous ahead of Sunday, but have trained hard and believe I am as prepared as I can be! I have had many ups and downs with training; sore feet, sore knees, sore legs, but I have strangely enjoyed it!
I have also had Naomi House in my head the whole time, which has massively spurred me on.
Jason’s wife and children will be supporting him throughout the day, with banners and cheering, but unfortunately there’ll be no crowds to drive him on. So, we have a favour to ask. If you see someone with a Virgin Money race number pass you on the street this Sunday, please stop in your tracks and give them a big round of applause and massive cheer. These people have probably been training for over a year for this event and they’re all doing it for inspirational reasons and causes close to their hearts, so please give them all the encouragement you can.
A huge thank you to Jason, Hannah, Sandy, Grace, Nick, Kate and Hayley for taking on this epic challenge to support Naomi House & Jacksplace this weekend. We cannot begin to express our gratitude and appreciation for your support. Good luck, be safe, enjoy it and know that with every step you take, you’re making a huge difference to the children, young adults and families in our care.
