Southampton University Students' Union (SUSU) recently teamed up with one of our Naomi House & Jacksplace charity shops to host a sustainable fashion show!
The show was a stylish night of fashion and fun and involved a mixture of clothes sourced from our Portswood charity shop, alongside items designed by the University’s talented Winchester School of Art fashion students. All items showcased were auctioned afterwards, raising much needed funds for Naomi House & Jacksplace, as well awareness for the work that we do.
The show, held in the ‘The Cube’, marked the end of SUSU’s ‘Sustainability Week’ and celebrated the beauty of sustainable fashion and highlighted the fashion industry as being one of the world’s largest polluters.
Georgina Inkpen, Marketing & Events Coordinator at Southampton University Students' Union, said:
As well as featuring sustainable garments designed by our talented fashion design students, we really wanted to celebrate the beauty and importance of shopping sustainably. So, we were super excited to partner with Naomi House & Jacksplace to showcase their second-hand clothes and raise money for the amazing work that they do!
Chelsea Larcombe, Activities Coordinator at Southampton University Students' Union, added:
Working with Naomi House & Jacksplace was such a lovely and fulfilling experience. The staff from the Portswood store were so helpful and there were so many high-quality items for us to choose from!
Tash Haji, Senior Community Fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
It has been a privilege and pleasure to work with everyone from SUSU and it was so wonderful to have an event in collaboration with one of our shops! The passion and hard work everyone has put into the 'Sustainability Week' and the fashion show has been inspiring. Raising much needed funds and awareness for our charity, we would like to thank everyone who organised, attended, bought at the auction and donated – you have made such a difference to the children, young adults and families in our care.
SUSU hosted the ‘Sustainability Week’ to give students and staff the chance to focus on doing more to protect the world we live in. It was a jam-packed week with many initiatives run raising lots of awareness on how we can all be more sustainable, including a student led sustainability forum where attendees could learn more about doing their bit for the planet, to a tree planting as well as bringing back their ever-popular second-hand clothing pop up shop.
Thank you so much to everyone at Southampton University Student Union for hosting such a fantastic, creative fundraising event in aid of our hospices!
What a fantastic example to show that we can all contribute to a happier planet, whether buying or recycling second hand clothes! If you want to discover some charity shop gems or donate your unwanted clothes for others to love, click below find your local Naomi House shop.
