Naomi House & Jacksplace volunteer and Recycle Bike Hub co-founder Richard, has completed an epic cycling challenge for our hospices, raising over £7000 in funds. Richard and his three friends cycled an impressive distance of over 1000 miles, completing the famous Lands End to John O'Groats trail.

In this epic cycle, Richard and his friends set off to cycle the entire length of Britain. The cycling challenge took 18 days to complete and the group cycled over 55 miles each day to achieve the objective of 1,000 miles.

Richard Hollingdale, Volunteer at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:

Throughout our journey we met people on the road who were extremely kind and made spontaneous donations to our fundraiser. It was so heartfelt to see people supporting our bike ride and Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices from so far away from their Hampshire base.

A local signwriter, Damian took a break from painting a pub logo to throw a donation from his cherry picker. Ashley, who served the cyclists in a local coffee shop, donated to the fundraiser to give a boost of morale at the end of a long day.

As Richard and his friends cycled through the stunning Scottish countryside, Hostelling Scotland supported their efforts by offering them accommodation. Towards the end of the journey, four ladies who were celebrating at Traquair House made a donation when they heard about the group’s efforts.

Richard, Ron, Steve and Mark were thrilled at the end of their journey to have raised an incredible amount of donations over £7400 for Naomi House & Jacksplace. The kindness of people who helped out along their journey, kept the cyclists motivated with their fundraising.

Witnessing the kindness of people helped us get through this tough challenge. Cycling through sun, rain, wind and even sleet for miles on end added to the challenge of the bike ride. But arriving at John O’Groats was a feeling like no other. The sense of achievement and knowing that you’ve made a difference for so many people is amazing. The pictures say it all - you can see it in our faces!
