Pupils support hospices with adorable Santa Fun Run

Children from local primary schools ran around their school grounds dressed as Santa during December to raise money for Naomi House & Jacksplace.

Throughout December, primary school students in Winchester participated in their very own Santa Fun Run to support our hospices. Dressed as Santa, the children ran around their school grounds, spreading festive cheer while raising money. Their collective efforts resulted in an impressive total of over £2,000 raised to fund the support of over 500 local families.

Rob Bogan, Headteacher at Itchen Abbas Primary, said:

I chose Naomi House & Jacksplace as a local Winchester based charity, because it enables our children to see that the money they raise helps support other children, just like them, but with life limiting or life threatening conditions. The children have loved the assemblies about the Clarendon Way Walk and the Santa Fun Run. They have been trying so hard to raise as much money as possible to support the work of Naomi House and Jacksplace. I am incredibly proud that they have managed to raise £550 - what an amazing gift they have given!

Our annual Santa Fun Run has become a firm favourite in Winchester and brings hundreds of Santas together to raise thousands for our hospices at Christmas time. An invitation to be a part of this prestigious event was opened up to local schools in Winchester and surrounding areas by holding their very own Santa Fun Run fundraiser.

A number of schools got involved in the challenge including; Sparsholt Church of England Primary, Itchen Abbas Primary and Owslebury Primary. The schools chose a date and a distance children to run and our events team provided them with adorable Santa suits and a little something special for each child to keep as a memento. Children had a jolly good time during their run, dashing around in their bright red suits.

Children were encouraged to ask their friends and family to raise as much as they could. They were also equipped with awesome fundraising ideas like, bake sales, Chistmas present wrapping and Santa's sweet jar.

Elizabeth Hanratty, Primary School Headteacher at Sparsholt Church of England Primary, said:

At 10am on Thursday, December 19, all of the children donned their Santa suits and took part in our Santa Fun Run in aid of Naomi House & Jacksplace. I have to say that seeing over 100 mini Santas running round the field was a real sight to behold!
