Offshore Jim Raises over £7.5K for Our Hospices in Berlin Marathon

Ship

Jim, an Offshore Manager working aboard the Deep Discoverer, a saturation diving construction ship, took on the incredible challenge of running the Berlin Marathon and raised over £7,500 for Naomi House & Jacksplace! As part of TechnipFMC, a company that has supported our charity in the past, Jim was already familiar with the vital work we do, which inspired him to make a difference.

Reflecting on his decision to support our cause, Jim shared:

I chose Naomi House when doing the Berlin Marathon because it does so much fantastic work for children and their families in what has to be the most difficult of times. I have two healthy grandchildren, so I can only imagine what these families are dealing with.

— Jim Littlefair, Off Shore Manager at TechnipFMC

While Berlin wasn't Jim's first marathon—he had previously completed Paris in 2008 and London in 2011—this race held a special significance. After a break from running, Jim got back into training over the past year to stay fit and embrace the challenge. What made his preparation even more impressive was that much of his training had to be done on a treadmill while working offshore for extended periods.

On race day, Jim admitted to feeling nervous but remained determined to finish, joking that he would do so "even if it was on his hands and knees." Thankfully, no crawling was necessary! He crossed the finish line on September 29th, with his wife Karen cheering him on and capturing memorable moments along the way.

Jim credits the success of his fundraising efforts to the incredible support he received:

I’ve managed to raise a lot of money for charities doing these marathons thanks to the support and generosity of my family, friends, and colleagues. I'm going to continue doing marathons—my plan next year is either Chicago or New York—with the hope of raising more for this amazing charity.
