Totton-based food supplier and Naomi House & Jacksplace charity partner Harvest Fine Foods, celebrated the end of their fundraising year by hosting an interactive cookery workshop for a group of boys at our hospices.
Our hospices hold activity days for a group of boys who all share the same condition. This gives them the opportunity to get together with others in a similar situation, be themselves and have fun.
During the workshop the boys were guided by Development Chef, Phil Clark, and a small team of helpers from Harvest Fine Foods, and were taught how to make ‘dirty burgers’ and ‘Tex-Mex sides’, which were cooked in the BBQ hut at Jacksplace. Then everyone created their own ice cream sundaes at the ‘ice cream station’, setup by Harvest Fine Foods.
Jenny Astall, Support Worker at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
Food is such an important aspect of our lives, so it was great to have the team from Harvest Fine Foods join us for a fun interactive workshop. The team were great at working with the boys in creating their own style of burgers and ice cream sundaes. Some of the boys were pleasantly surprised how adding ingredients like onions and gherkins gave extra flavour to their burgers, even though they weren’t sure to begin with!
The group we run at Naomi House & Jacksplace allows the boys to get together with others in a place where they can be themselves and have fun. Thank you so much to Harvest Fine Foods for sharing skills and hosting an overall brilliant experience for the boys, who all left feeling content with full stomachs!
Phil Clark, Development Chef at Harvest Fine Foods, said:
We had a fantastic day at Naomi House & Jacksplace celebrating the end of our fundraising year with a ‘final party’ cookery event for the service users. Thank you to the local suppliers who donated supplies for the event to take place.
Harvest Fine Foods have supported Naomi House & Jacksplace as a corporate partner since 2023. In that time, the Harvest team have supported our hospices in many different ways, including fundraising, providing food at fundraising events and volunteering at our community events. In just one year, the team has raised a fantastic £5,000 for our hospices.
