Please note - this story was created in June 2020 - our Chineham charity shop is currently closed until shops are allowed to open by law again after lockdown.
Our charity shop in Chineham, Hampshire, has created a process to safely accept a controlled amount of high quality donations again.
We’re delighted that we have been able to open a handful of our charity shops again following the Covid-19 pandemic, including Chineham, North End, Shaftesbury, Totton and Romsey. However, we have been unable, up until this point, to accept donations from the general public. Which is why we are pleased to announce, our Chineham charity shop has created a safe method to process donations again.
The store has implemented a booking system, which offers appointments one day a week, currently on a Monday. The appointments are 30 minute slots running from 9am - 2.30pm. Donations can only currently be accepted with a booking - walk in donations unfortunately cannot be accepted at this time. We have had to implement these measures as we are currently working with a smaller workforce, with limited space, and the new government guidelines require us to quarantine stock when we initially receive it.
Also, while we are so incredibly grateful for any and all donations that we receive, because we don’t currently have a warehouse to process goods, we’re kindly asking for good quality, clean donations, in a saleable condition only please. At the moment, we’re in need of summer stock, books and jigsaws, as these are the biggest sellers in our shops at this time of the year.
For anyone wanting to donate goods to our Chineham shop, please call: 01256 352314 to book your Monday appointment. We are hoping to increase the appointments to two days, once we have more volunteers at the shop.
Charlotte Lucas, Shop Manager at the Naomi House & Jacksplace Chineham shop, said:
“We’re delighted to be able to accept donations again. We hope the general public understands why we cannot accept random drop in donations at this time, why we can only accept clean, high quality, ready-to-sell goods, and why we’ve had to take these precautions and thank you all for your understanding and patience at this time. We very much look forward to receiving all of your wonderfully generous donations!
“We understand why many of our volunteers can’t return to help out at the shops yet, and miss them all dearly. If anyone can help us out in the interim, please do get in touch - we’d really appreciate the help!”
For anyone with spare time on their hands that wants to help a worthy cause, we are also currently in need of volunteers to help out at the shops. With more than 560 volunteers at Naomi House & Jacksplace, we rely heavily on the generosity of those who give up their time and effort to support our charity. But, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many of our volunteers are currently unable to return. So, if you want to help us get our vitally important retail fundraising operation back on its feet by volunteering in one of our shops, then please get in touch ASAP, by emailing: hello@naomihouse.org.uk or calling: 01962 760060. Thank you.
