On Saturday 27th November, Cheam School in Headley hosted their annual Christmas Fair, this time in aid of Naomi House & Jacksplace. They chose Naomi House & Jacksplace as they wanted to pick a local charity that helps local children, choosing a charity that would resonate with both the parents and students of Cheam School.
There was over 800 people who attended the fair, with over 30 stalls and each stall donating a percentage of their takings to charity, they also had stalls run by Cheam parents of which 100% of their profits would go to charity. As well as home wear, clothing and gift stalls, the stalls run by parents included freshly baked cakes, the BBQ stand and the toy stall – which went down great with the students!
We went along on the day to talk to the parents and students about Naomi House & Jacksplace and to let them know the impact their donations would have at the hospices.
We encouraged anyone at our stall to make sensuous lavender bags, an activity that is enjoyed by the children and young adults in our care. As well as having fun, we also spoke to the students of the importance of sensory plants and the calming benefits that lavender has to the users of our services.
The children had a great day at the fair, receiving some very positive feedback about their work and raised £143 for Naomi House & Jacksplace. A wonderful learning experience and great fun had all around
Some of the Year 8 students ran their own stall selling handcrafted items that they made during their Design Technology lessons. The children created items from recycled products such as cufflinks and coasters, which were formed in the heat press from shredded plastic off-cuts and re-formed granules. They also made candle holders and rings from resin casting and wood from the wood store, carefully sanding down the wood and then oiling it to create a high quality finish. They donated all the money that they made to Naomi House & Jacksplace!
We were delighted to welcome hundreds of families to the Cheam Christmas Fair in support of
Naomi House. Over 30 stallholders filled our beautifully decked sports hall, and the event was a
huge success, enabling great opportunities for early Christmas shopping and a chance to meet
Father Christmas. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Charity and Cheam.
We are thrilled to be able to present Naomi House a cheque for £8,042.20 and to support them in their incredible work with children, young people and their families.
Thank you Cheam School for supporting us!
