Students from Bournemouth University recently hosted a quiz night fundraising event called ‘Beat the Lecturers’ for Naomi House & Jacksplace, raising £1,658.
The students went head to head in a battle of wits with their lecturers at the quiz night at cocktail bar, ‘Slug and Lettuce’. They set a fundraising target of £500 and with a lot of creativity and effort, they exceeded they target and raised a fantastic £1,658! And to top it off, students came out victorious and well and truly beat their lecturers and won the quiz!
The sold out quiz night was made eco-friendly and sustainable via the use of a quiz app and digital event programme to reduce paper waste, as well as encouraging the use of contactless payments.
Owen, Events Management student and organiser of the event, said:
Our Beat the Lecturers quiz night was everything we dreamed of and more! Having the chance to put our Events Management course into practice by organising our first live event was really satisfying, with the added bonus of doing it for such a special charity. We are so grateful for the creative freedom that we were given, and we’re thrilled to have more than tripled our fundraising target! Working with Naomi House & Jacksplace for our event was an absolute no-brainer for us given the values of the charity and the people that their work helps.
The team worked hard to raise as much money for Naomi House & Jacksplace as they could, including creating incentives for tables bought and hosting a charity raffle.
Tash Haji, Senior Community Fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
It has been a privilege and pleasure to work with everyone from Bournemouth University. Tripling their initial fundraising target is amazing and is all down to their hard work and creativity. We would like to thank everyone involved – you have made such a difference to the children, young adults and families in our care.
